Civil Law Foundation

The Civil Law Foundation has been working since 2018 to improve the skills of young lawyers in the country and gain practical experience in the field. The founding director of the organization is Advocate Ziaur Rahman, who was born on February 2, 1980 in Amkhola Union, Galachipa Upazila, Patuakhali District.

Only lawyers who have passed LLB can be admitted to the Civil Law Foundation. So far, 443 lawyers have completed this training course and have achieved success in their professional lives. There are 5 more directors in the foundation.

The course duration is three months, where a total of 12 classes are held, each class lasting 4 hours. The admission fee has been fixed at Tk 5,000. Certificates are given to participants at the end of the course.

The training course includes:

  • Land plot identification and quantification
  • Faraiz law
  • Training on land ownership and purchase and sale
  • Hands-on learning on land verification at the field level
  • Steps in handling criminal and civil cases
  • Various questions and answers for preparing for viva exams

Civil Law Foundation training requires some supporting materials—calculators, scales, written questions and answers, explanations of important sections of the law, etc.

In this context, Advocate Ziaur Rahman said,
“We want every lawyer to become proficient at the field level. If you make a mistake, you will be taught again and again. By doing this course, you will easily understand the legal complexities of land. It is not only theoretical, but also practical.”

Many lawyers from outside Dhaka are also participating in this training. The foundation provides lecture sheets and practical guidelines according to the syllabus to each batch.

Advocate Ziaur Rahman has received several national and international awards for his special contribution to the legal profession and social service. Notable among them are—

From Sir (Advocate Ziaur Rahman), I have learned in detail about the forms, designs, documents, land size, shares and farayez for conducting civil litigation. Besides, I have learned firsthand how to settle a civil case quickly. As a result, now I can conduct civil litigation with confidence and efficiency.”

Experience of two students:
A trainee lawyer A.S.M. Habibur Rahman, after participating in theoretical classes, I participated in practical land measurement in Fakirapul, Savar, Goran and Dakshingaon areas under Sabujbagh police station. Besides, I took lessons on land size, shares and farayez for a whole day at Prince Garden City, East Basabo. Learning at Civil Law Foundation is a joy. Civil Matter is an art – that is what the founder Advocate Ziaur Rahman Sir teaches.

Trainee lawyer Md. Salah Uddin said, a student of the 11th batch of Civil Law Foundation. As a Civil Law Foundation student, this course is helping me acquire the basic knowledge and skills necessary to work as a lawyer in the future. This course of Civil Law Foundation is very important in the context of Bangladesh. Through this course, I am getting a deep understanding of the practical context of legal justice, civil rights and law enforcement, which is essential for an ideal legal professional. ** From Civil Law Foundation, I learned Parcha Chena, Ana, Ganda, Kada, Kranti, Til, Hazar Method, land measurement, detailed knowledge of design, inheritance, Faraiz or property distribution, serial description of ownership, preparation of documents for filing lawsuits, etc. Therefore, each chapter of this course is connected to our moral, social and economic values. In addition, the Civil Law Foundation course has helped me develop research-based analysis, reasoned opinion and ethical thinking. By reading and analyzing specific case law, I am learning to build a framework for legal reasoning. I believe this will make me more confident in my future judicial or advisory profession. Finally, I believe that the Civil Law Foundation is a foundation for a law student on which it is possible to build future knowledge, justice and professional excellence. This course not only teaches law, but also teaches the responsibility of practicing justice and maintaining order in society through law. For this, I am grateful and proud to be a student of this important branch.
